Redstone announces 2023 Community Champions

September 14, 2023 _ Redstone Federal Credit Union® recognized six individuals who were nominated by its members and the public for doing good in their communities.

The individuals, honored as ‘Community Champions’, say they were all called into service because they saw a need and wanted to address it.

Redstone launched an initiative in spring of 2023 where it asked its members and the general public to nominate Redstone members who are doing amazing things to help others in their community. It looked for unsung heroes among its membership and received over 100 nominations.

Joe Newberry, Redstone’s President and CEO, celebrated the recipients.

“These members truly live our philosophy of ‘People Helping People.’ They each saw a need in their community and they set out to address it. We honor them for their dedication and support them in their efforts.’

Those selected as Community Champions are:

  • Mylikia Franklin, Murfreesboro, TN, supports small businesses through cultural events
  • Linda Kucinskas, Elkmont, hosts prize-filled bingo games for senior citizens
  • LaCurtis ‘LC’ Smith, Huntsville, mentors young men whose fathers are absent from their lives
  • Kelley and Chad Whitworth, Madison, help families who have experienced stillbirth or similar loss with funeral expenses and grief counseling
  • Chase Woods, Huntsville, coaches wheelchair basketball and helps raise money for adapted wheelchairs
