Acts of Brightness Spark Joy Across North Alabama and Middle Tennessee

A bouquet of flowers, a better cut of meat, a full tank of gas, or a paid utility bill were simple acts that turned into unforgettable moments of kindness for hundreds of families this year, thanks to Redstone Federal Credit Union’s Acts of Brightness program.

As part of its 75th anniversary celebration, Redstone surprised communities by giving back. It is an effort to meet people where they are and make their everyday life a little easier. Since January, Redstone’s Acts of Brightness Crew has been showing up across North Alabama and Middle Tennessee—paying for gas, covering grocery bills, assisting with utilities and back-to-school shopping, and spreading encouragement one unexpected moment at a time.

“It was a great surprise. I am super grateful; especially in this economy right now,’’ said Delanie Walker, who got free groceries. “I got meat for my family. I got my kids’ sports drinks, and we got some fun little snacks. Thank y’all! This was a super big surprise – I appreciate it!”

Wearing their signature bright blue shirts, Redstone employees have assisted residents in Athens, Smyrna, Murfreesboro, Cullman, and Huntsville, transforming routine errands into meaningful experiences. So far, they have hosted seven events and helped more than 315 families, contributing over $60,000 in direct support—with more events planned through the end of the year.

One recent stop was at Athens Utilities, where Brightness crews paid water, electric, and gas bills for approximately 25 families. Smiles, tears, and heartfelt thanks filled the office as residents were told to put away their money – Redstone was covering their bills. In addition to current bills, Brightness crews also helped people get their utilities turned back on and even put credits on some accounts.

“These moments remind us why community matters,” said Joe Newberry, president and CEO of Redstone Federal Credit Union. “I truly believe that what we focus on becomes what matters. Through Acts of Brightness, we’re focused on making a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve.”

Residents in cities where Redstone has a branch are encouraged to keep an eye out for those bright blue shirts—you never know where the Acts of Brightness Crew might show up next. To stay up to date on upcoming events and moments of community impact, follow @redstonefcu on social media.
