Redstone breaks ground on first downtown Huntsville branch

28 Nov 2018

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(November 28, 2018) Redstone Federal Credit Union® is constructing a new downtown Huntsville branch and office building that will appear to glow as motorists travel into the city from the interstate. Close up, it will be even more impressive.

A groundbreaking at the site, 200 Davis Circle, was held Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2018. The 66,718 square foot building will span five floors and include a Community Room and Rooftop Terrace.

“We couldn’t have chosen a better day for this celebration because today is also the credit union’s 67th Anniversary,’’ said Joe Newberry, Redstone’s President and CEO.

“It’s so fitting that we take this moment to remember why Redstone Federal Credit Union was founded – and that is to help our members, their families and our communities to reach their financial dreams. We believe this branch complex will help us to conveniently serve many more families and take the products and services they want to them,’’ Newberry said.

The branch complex is expected to open in fall 2020.

The building will bring something new to downtown Huntsville, said architect Kristine Harding of KPS Group.

“Many of the downtown buildings have lots of brick and look more traditional. This design of glass and metal panels give the building a more fresh and cutting edge look,’’ Harding said.

Inside, the branch design is open, flexible and allows space that can be configured to accommodate numerous set-ups. Solar panels on the roof of the parking deck will be used to power the parking deck lights and outdoor perimeter lights.

The downtown building is Redstone’s third ongoing construction project. A June 2018 groundbreaking was held in Murfreesboro, Tenn., for its flagship Tennessee branch office, located on Medical Center Parkway. It is due to open in summer 2019.

A modern Drive-thru Teller Station is being built on North Parkway that will stand out for its design, convenience and functionality. It will feature video teller services and general ATM functions. It will open in January 2019.

“These projects further demonstrate that Redstone is fully invested in the communities it serves and are continuing to grow with them, ’’ Newberry said.

The Murfreesboro and downtown Huntsville branches embrace the ‘live, work, shop, dine’ experience.

Redstone’s Twickenham Square location was previously the home of Phillips Christian Methodist Episcopal Church - the second oldest African-American congregation in Huntsville.

Redstone will erect a historic marker on the grounds to remember the congregation’s service to its members and to the community.

Church officials chose to relocate the congregation earlier this year.

In addition to the branch office, this location will house executives’ offices and provide two floors of multi-tenant lease space.

This is Redstone’s most ambitious building project to date, said Fred Trusty, Redstone’s Chief Marketing Officer.  “Members have been asking for a downtown branch for years that will handle their real estate and business accounts. This branch will do that and so much more, ’’ Trusty said.

“We are growing to meet current and future needs,’’ Trusty said. “As downtown Huntsville continues to attract young professionals, new business start-ups and, retailers, a Redstone branch that fits into that mix is needed.’’
