Ginger Cobl had always dreamed of having a gift shop. So when the right space became available on Decatur’s historic Bank Street, she knew it was the perfect time to open The Cupboard.

Ginger had plenty of experience running a similar retail business, but what she didn’t know was how many details are involved in setting up a new business. That’s why she is very quick to applaud the Business Team at Redstone Federal Credit Union® for giving her a helping hand.

“Redstone made it so easy, so seamless, to start my business. When I went in to open my business checking account, I had no idea I even needed a federal tax ID number, much less how to get one. They patiently walked me through that process and so much more,” Ginger said.

Ginger relates the helpful assistance she received from Redstone to her philosophy for owning a small business. “I always say, ‘a rising tide lifts all ships,’ and Redstone’s help is a great example of that. It’s an approach I use when The Cupboard collaborates with other Decatur small businesses. Working together, we generate more awareness and create more momentum. And that is the same advice I give other retail start-ups.”

You can find beautiful art created by local artists at The Cupboard, like these pieces by Mary Reed.

The Cupboard prefers to support local artists and artisans first. The store features stunning artwork from a variety of local artists, from pottery to paintings. They also feature lovely, locally made bath and body products from businesses like 1818 Farms. If Ginger cannot find a product within North Alabama, she will search throughout the state in order to represent our local makers and businesses.

Ginger also lives this philosophy at The Cupboard by featuring high-quality dining and kitchen goods from other small business owners. This community spirit is a great reflection of the credit union philosophy of “People Helping People.” Ginger has just taken it to the next level with “Businesses Helping Businesses.”
