The United Way of Rutherford and Cannon counties raised over $40,000 worth of school supplies for children in need during Stuff the Bus.

Every year, there are children in our community who struggle to afford basic school supplies. Can you imagine trying to excel in school without a pencil and a notebook? For some kids, this is a reality. But the United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties has found a way to combat this issue with their Stuff the Bus program.

How Stuff the Bus Helps Children Succeed

Every year, there are children in our community who struggle to afford basic school supplies. Can you imagine trying to excel in school without a pencil and a notebook? For some kids, this is a reality. But the United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties has found a way to combat this issue with their Stuff the Bus program.

Stuff the Bus is an annual donation drive held by the United Way to help provide school supplies for children in need throughout our community. They create Back to School kits that contain essential school supplies for children in Pre-K through fifth grade. This year, the donation drive ran from June 3rd to July 18th.

The goal this year was to provide 5,000 children a Back-to-School Kit. “Focusing on one of the United Way’s priority community issues, helping children and youth succeed, the kits contain resources that students need to encourage school readiness and boost self-esteem,” says United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties.

Volunteers helped stuff 2,500 bags to give to school shildren at Stuff the Bus!

This year marked the 5th year for the Stuff the Bus program. The Back-to-School Kits help children in Cannon County, Murfreesboro City and Rutherford County Schools prepare for the school year by providing school essentials. Each kit includes:Stacks of school supplies at Hobgood Elementary School ready to be sorted into Back to School kits.
