HEALS Shares Their Redstone Story

August 3, 2016

HEALS helps children throughout Huntsville and Madison receive the comprehensive medical, dental and optometry care they need.

As we celebrate 65 years of serving the Tennessee Valley, we want to highlight those who have partnered with us to support our local communities. Here is HEALS's Redstone story, in their own words:

Thanks to the ongoing support of Redstone Federal Credit Union®, many of the most vulnerable children in our community are receiving comprehensive medical, dental and optometry care in a convenient, familiar location from people who know them and their families.

Instead of relying on the Emergency Room for all of their health care, parents are taking their children to the HEALS clinic for minor illnesses, chronic conditions, and regular check-ups. Serious dental issues are being avoided because children are receiving preventive dental care and education.  Children with vision problems are being identified and their vision corrected so they can read and function in the classroom.

HEALS provides children throughout our community with medical, dental and optometry care with the support of Redstone.
Recently a little kindergarten student came to the HEALS dental clinic.  He was fearful and reluctant to sit in the dental chair.  The HEALS dental staff walked him back to another room where a second grade boy was having work done on his teeth.  The older child saw the little boy watching, and gave him a big thumbs up.

Later, the second grader kindly explained that having dental work done is important and that if the younger boy ever wants to “run with the big dogs” he has to “learn how to handle his business” like visiting the dentist. The kindergarten student puffed out his little chest and said he could handle it just fine.  The second grader told him he would be checking to see how things went on the kindergartner’s next visit.  We’re happy to report that his next trip to the dentist was a big success. The encouragement of the second grader gave him the confidence he needed to sail through his appointment with no problems.
