Charity Finders, a Redstone employee group focused on helping local charities, held their October “Donation Journey” for Hands of Mercy, a non-profit ministry offering assistance to those in need in Lincoln County with food, clothing, and utility bill assistance.

Hands of Mercy has operated since 2006 and helps serve hundreds of Lincoln County residents each year from their 5,000-square-foot warehouse. It was started as a Christ-centered ministry with a two-fold purpose: to help those in need in Lincoln County and also to give churches a place that they could refer people to when they inquire about assistance. Hands of Mercy assists those in need with food, clothing, utility bill assistance and household items for those affected by house fires.

Food insecure: those who do not know when, where, or how their next meal is going to come.

Hands of Mercy also runs a weekend feeding program for children in need called “Bags of Blessings”. This program helps the 1 in 4 children who are food insecure in Lincoln County. They provide food to children every week who are unsure of when their next meal will come over the weekend. The food is packed into their backpacks and is enough to sustain them through Monday.

Redstone employees Treva and Wes with the donations raised for Hands of Mercy.Charity Finders helped raise food donations for Bags of Blessings throughout the month of October. Redstone employees donated crackers, peanut butter, Jello, canned soup, raisins and other non-perishable items for the children’s packs—all items children can easily prepare themselves with only water or eat immediately out of the package. Redstone was able to donate a SUV full of food items to Hands of Mercy.

“Tina Hudson with Hands of Mercy was blown away! She stated that they had run out of snacks last week, and she didn’t know what they would do this Friday. She had prayed something would come along, and it did. So Charity Finders helped with answering her prayers!”
Treva Buntley,
AVP of Employee Learning and Development

Want to help support a hungry child in need? The cost to sponsor one child’s Bags of Blessings for a year is only $160.

Another great program Hands of Mercy hosts is a Back-to-School Mobile Pantry. Every summer, before school starts, Hands of Mercy partners with local churches and organizations to give out free backpacks, shoes, school supplies and haircuts to children in Lincoln County. They also offer free health screenings during the event. Children enjoy a carnival-like atmosphere, with many fun activities for them to participate in like face painting, animal balloons, games and refreshments.

If you are in need of help from Hands of Mercy, they are open every Tuesday and Thursday from 9 am to 3 pm. They are located at 101 Easy St. Fayetteville, TN 37334. Hands of Mercy is always looking for volunteers, especially since they are a 501(c)(3) non-profit with no paid staff. That means they run entirely on volunteers like you to help those throughout Lincoln County. If interested in volunteering or donating, give Hands of Mercy at call at 931-433-4263 or email them at handsofmercy@fpunet.com.

If you know of or are part of a local charity who could benefit from the help of Charity Finders, please let us know in a comment below! We’re always looking for community organizations and charities to help support.
