It’s no secret that the cost of groceries is a large chunk of anyone’s budget. According to a recent Gallup poll, the average American spends $151 per week on food. This equals to over $600 a month!

It can feel impossible to cut down the cost of groceries while still feeding your family nutritious and filling food. But a study by the USDA can help you figure out ways to make your money go farther. They conducted research on how much 156 common fruits and vegetables cost on average throughout the country.

Surprisingly, there are fruits and vegetables out there that cost $1 or less per pound! This is great news considering how much groceries add up to each month. Vegetables work well as a snack or side dish, making them a versatile staple to have in the fridge or pantry. They are a great source of Vitamin K, fiber, calcium, copper, B vitamins, and potassium. 

There are also many fruits you can buy for $1 or less per pound! Fruits are excellent sources of vitamin C, potassium, vitamin A, and fiber. They are a great addition to any meal and can act as a substitute for dessert or help curb a craving for sweets.
