Enjoy these free, family-friendly events in Huntsville this summer, like Plays Days at Hays!

The heat is on, the kids are home, and it’s time to find some fun things to do! Luckily, this summer is chock-full of fun, family-friendly events that also happen to be free. Whether you and your little ones enjoy music, movies, food, or crafts, there are plenty of great options for you. Mark your calendars so you don’t miss any of these free family events!

 

German Biergarten

 

When: Every Thursday from 4:30 – 7:30 pm until October 20th

Where: U.S. Space & Rocket Center, Saturn V Hall in the Davidson Center for Space Exploration, One Tranquility Base, Huntsville, AL 35805

Details: Learn about German culture and food every Thursday at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center! Admission is free, and authentic German food and drinks are available for purchase. A portion of food sales go to a different local charity each week! Enjoy the event with friends, family, and your favorite pup—it’s a dog-friendly event.

Play Days at Hays

 

When: Tuesdays and Thursday in June and July with classes running between 9 am and 2 pm

Where: Hays Nature Preserve, 7161 Hwy 431 S, Owens Cross Roads, Huntsville, AL 35763

Details: Enjoy the great outdoors with your children as they learn about nature and explore Hays Nature Preserve. Each day includes a different lesson and activity, so enjoy multiple sessions if you’d like! Wear sneakers and clothes you don’t mind getting a tad dirty, and don’t forget to bring a bottle of water. If you’re going to attend, be sure to make a reservation by calling 256-532-5326.

Arts Huntsville Concerts in the Park

 

When: Every Monday from 6:30 – 8 pm through August 8th

Where: Big Spring International Park, 200 Church Street, Huntsville, AL 35801

Details: Catch a variety of musical acts every Monday this summer at Big Spring International Park. Enjoy music from all types of genres, from rock and roll, pop and top 40 to swing, country, bluegrass, Celtic and jazz. Bring a blanket or some chairs, pack a nice picnic, and get ready to enjoy some great live music! Food will also be available for purchase at food trucks located on Church Street and Williams Avenue. Leashed dogs are welcome to come enjoy the event as well.

Family Fun Afternoon

 

When: Every Monday from 2:30 - 3:30 pm until July 19th

Where: Huntsville-Madison County Public Library, 915 Monroe Street, Huntsville AL, 35801

Details: Enjoy games, movies and music every Monday afternoon at the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library downtown. This free event is fun for the entire family and offers an array of activities and fun. Movies in the Park

 

When: July 8th and August 12th from 6 – 10 pm

Where: Big Spring International Park, 200 Church Street, Huntsville, AL 35801

Details: Enjoy a family-friendly movie under the stars the 2nd Friday of July and August at Big Spring International Park presented by the Historic Huntsville Foundation! Children can enjoy lots of fun activities and then grab some yummy food from local food trucks. Bring a blanket or some chairs and enjoy Raiders of the Lost Ark in July and Aladdin in August!
