Save money on your wedding with these great tips!

Did you know that the average wedding in the U.S. costs around $30,000, according to a recent study performed by The Knot? If you’re a bride-to-be, or the parents of one, this might seem like an astronomical amount to spend. It’s easy to let the expenses rack up and end up spending way more than you expected.

Luckily, there are some areas where you can cut costs without diminishing any of the importance of your big day. Try some of these tips to keep your big day at or below your budget.

Beware of “Wedding” Items

The word “wedding” comes with a premium price tag.  For example, ordering specially designed “wedding” thank you notes can bump up your budget a fair amount. If you’re ordering 100 or more, it can easily add up to over $100! Instead buy non-wedding thank you notes in packs of 25 or 50 at normal retailers in a color or design that match your wedding’s theme, and personalize them by writing thoughtful notes inside. You can always get prints made of your favorite engagement or wedding photo to add inside at a much lower cost than personalized wedding cards.

Have Your Wedding on a Sunday or Weekday

Saturdays are the most sought-after day for weddings, making them cost the most compared to any other day of the week. You can cut your venue costs by up to 50% by having your wedding on a Sunday or weekday night. Having it on one of these days might be more viable if most of your guests live close to the wedding venue, since taking vacation and travel isn’t a factor for them. Booking in the off season times, from January through April, will also save you some extra cash.

Utilize the Dollar Store Wisely

Save money by shopping for wedding decor, like candles, at dollar stores.
Shopping at a dollar store can definitely save you some dough, but always check prices before you buy. Sift through local wedding rental shops to see which items you can rent for less than a dollar per piece. Dollar stores are great for getting materials for bridesmaid’s gifts or wedding favors. Many even offer bulk ordering online, making your shopping experience simple and easy.

Multi-purpose Your Wedding Items

You can't beat a two-for-one deal. Finding creative ways for your wedding purchases to serve double duty can be a big budget saver. Add a cute name tag to your wedding favors, and they can easily double for place cards at your reception. Planning to frame some large prints from your engagement photo shoot? Place them on easels at your venue for instant décor.

When it comes to weddings, they don’t have to break the bank. If you shop strategically and do some planning and research along the way, you’ll be able to save a pretty penny and not bust your budget while still having the time of your life.
