Redstone employees, veterans and TADSAW supports came together to walk in the Veterans Day Parade.

Redstone's Charity Finders group has been on a mission to help raise funds for the organization Train a Dog, Save a Warrior, also known as TADSAW. TADSAW is a Texas-based program that provides training for Medical Alert Service Dogs for any wounded veteran service member surviving with any type of PTSD. They offer these service dogs at no cost to the veteran or their family. TADSAW helps veterans throughout the country and has helped support multiple Redstone employees, spouses of employees and members.

Celebrating Our Veterans & Partnering With TADSAW

Redstone's Charity Finders group has been on a mission to help raise funds for the organization Train a Dog, Save a Warrior, also known as TADSAW. TADSAW is a Texas-based program that provides training for Medical Alert Service Dogs for any wounded veteran service member surviving with any type of PTSD. They offer these service dogs at no cost to the veteran or their family. TADSAW helps veterans throughout the country and has helped support multiple Redstone employees, spouses of employees and members.

"The Train a Dog Save a Warrior (TADSAW) program serves the warrior, the family and the community, by providing the warrior with a K-9 rescue ‘Battle Buddy’ and the training and tools needed to become an accredited Warrior/Service Dog Team." TADSAW website

Through selling TADSAW t-shirts and making donations, Redstone employees were able to raise over $5,000 for TADSAW. Employees sold 280 t-shirts over the course of only a few weeks! All the funds raised will help TADSAW purchase and train more dogs to help support Veterans. Through Redstone's efforts, TADSAW will be able to provide trained service dogs to two veterans in need!

You can support TADSAW by purchasing a Train a Dog, Save a Warrior tee shirt. “Through TADSAW, my service dog Zidane was able to get the necessary training he needed to assist me with my medical condition. Having him has added mobility and value to my life,” says Jevon D. Turner Sr., a disabled Navy veteran, pictured at left with his service dog Zidane and wife Suzanne, a Redstone employee. Read more about Jevon's story along with local TADSAW dog trainer Sara Astle here

In 2016 alone, TADSAW has accredited 121 service dog teams, including 15 Vietnam veteran service dog teams & the first Korean War veteran service dog team. Veterans go through a rigorous training period with their service dog, anywhere from 15 to 25 weeks. The first phase of training focuses on the skills needed to pass the AKC Canine Good Citizenship course, which is the benchmark standard in obedience for therapy dog work. During the second phase, time is spent socializing the team in dog friendly public places. When the trainer is confident the team is progressing sufficiently, the public training begins in placing like restaurants and malls.

To celebrate our veterans and spread the word about TADSAW, over 30 Redstone employees, veterans and TADSAW supporters came together to walk during the Veterans Day Parade in Huntsville last Friday. We were honored to have 3 current TADSAW service dogs and one in-training walk with us during the parade! Local TADSAW dog trainer, Sara Astle, walked with our group with her service dog in-training. The group handed out 80 pounds of candy during the parade!
Redstone employees teamed up with veterans who have service dogs through TADSAW to walk in the parade.

Charity Finders leader Anthony Cox recently spoke with the TADSAW Program Director, Bart Sherwood. Bart says that TADSAW has received 4 applications for service dogs within the Huntsville area since Redstone's campaign began! We are proud to help TADSAW connect these veterans with much-needed service dogs.

TADSAW has changed the lives of over 1,300 Veterans and shelter dogs. If you would like to help TADSAW with their mission of serving our veterans, contact them about fundraising events your organization or employer could do! As a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization, they are in desperate need of funds to accomplish their mission of helping our veterans, one service dog at a time.
