Jason Puckett, owner of Defense Pest Solutions, shares business practices that have helped him see success.

Jason Puckett dreamed of owning his own business for a long time. As a third generation pest control professional, he knew from an early age exactly what type of business he wanted to own. His dream came true when he purchased the pest control division of Myron Puckett’s company, Puckett’s Pest Control, in October of 2016. He’s learned a lot about how to run a successful business, and wants to share his keys to success with you.

Jason’s business, Defense Pest Solutions, is located in Decatur, AL and offers commercial and residential pest control solutions. “I strive to provide a solution to the pest problem instead of focusing on “killing” insects,” he says. Jason believes in putting the customer first, following advice from his grandfather. “He always said, ‘Treat your customers right and always do what you say you will do.’  This ideal is one of our core values,” states Jason. “I know if my grandfather was still alive, he would still stress the same emphasis.”

“They are always very considerate and takes their time! Quick to respond when I have questions, and I couldn't ask for better quality services!” a recent customer review.

This customer-first mindset guides the business practices of Defense Pest Solutions. “I strive to be the best pest solution provider and educate my customers on the solution tactics they can use to help lower the chance of pest activity,” he says. The satisfaction of his customers is Jason’s number one concern.

With 10 years of experience in manufacturing, Jason has a knack for problem solving and finding solutions. This has also helped him run his business. His keys to business success?

  • Using problem solving and business measurement tools daily
  • Educating customers on solution tactics
  • Measuring results to ensure customer service satisfaction
  • Tracking margins to keep his business competitive

What Jason enjoys best about running a business is, “fulfilling a dream of mine and the ability to always be a problem solver,” he says. He also found a problem-solver in Redstone’s Business Solutions department. “I partnered with Redstone because they helped walk me through the purchasing of the business. They helped explain things in terms I could relate to,” he says.

It shows through his work that Jason understands some of the most important aspects of business: know your craft, serve your customer and deliver excellence every time. His impact on his customers reflects in their reviews, such as this one from one of his monthly customers:

“Jason is very prompt about keeping appointments and is always on time. He is very conscientious about the job he does and makes sure to explain everything. The price is below what I had normally been paying. The technician was punctual and professional. I would highly recommend them to friends and family.”
