How to be More Productive at Work

It’s a constant struggle: trying to do more work within less time. Whether you’re trying to get a handle on your to-do list or want to make a good impression on your boss, we’re always looking for ways to be more productive at work. It can seem impossible, but these tips give you ways to boost your productivity to get more done while stressing less. Talk about a win-win.

Wake Up Earlier

If you feel like it takes you an hour or two to wake up and get in the zone when you’re at work, you may want to try waking up earlier. Giving yourself enough time to wake up and prepare for the day is crucial to productivity. If you lag in the morning and can’t seem to drink enough coffee to conquer it, try waking up a half hour or hour earlier and see if that helps you engage more once you walk through the office doors.

Plan Your Day

Being unorganized and unsure of your project load and deadlines can destroy your productivity easily. When you first get into work, take a few minutes to go over your projects, check deadlines, and review your calendar. Adding a few moments to clarify your day can help you know exactly what you need to powerhouse through and help guide your time more efficiently.

Take Mini Breaks

When the ideas just won’t flow and you’ve hit a mental wall, walking away and taking a short break can help you refresh your mind and get back into the workflow. Grab some water, take a short walk, or head outside for a few minutes to clear your head. Coming back to your project feeling fresh will help you be more relaxed and help get the ideas rolling again.

Pack Some Healthy Snacks

You can’t get much work done if you’re running on empty all day. Even if you always have a filling, healthy lunch, adding a few snacks throughout the day can help bring your energy up and keep you plowing through work for the rest of the afternoon. Try snacks that are a balance of fat, protein and carbs, such as an apple and cheese, a handful of nuts, or a banana and peanut butter.

Recap at the End of the Day

How many times have you left work, then halfway through your drive home started panicking because you couldn’t remember if you had a meeting the next day? Avoid these moments and become more efficient by taking time to recap at the end of the day. Check your calendar for the next day, make a list of what are top priorities to get done, and reflect on how you spent your day to see how you could make changes to be more productive.
