Redstone brightens people's lives

Redstone Federal Credit Union literally brightened lives last month by helping people keep their lights on. That’s right, Redstone paid some residents' utility bills in August after showing up at utility companies in Arab, Guntersville, Fayetteville, Decatur, Madison, Athens, Huntsville and Murfreesboro.

Sandy Eddy-Ray of Decatur Utilities said of Redstone, “It was a true pleasure and honor to have all of you here. It is so nice to see other companies investing in Decatur and its citizens.’’

Redstone brightens people's lives - literallyRedstone's Brightness Crews met people whose electricity had already been disconnected, who were there to pay their bill and prevent a disconnection and some who were seeking payment plans due to illness or job loss or both. Others were moving into the area and getting their utilities turned on for the first time.

Each month Redstone sends out Brightness Crews to conduct random acts that will brighten the life of the people they meet. Since February 2017, Redstone has spent $184,000 in the community and impacted tens of thousands of people. Nearly $70,000 was spent on utilities' payments during August alone

Redstone brightens people's lives - literallyThe Brightness Crews have bought gas, paid for lunch, purchased back to school supplies and clothing, paid utility bills, and much more for residents. Later this month, the Brightness Crews will go out again to do something wonderfully unexpected for their neighbors.

One woman and her five children were close to having their water turned off. Redstone was at Madison Utilities and was able to help. She was in tears as her bill was covered. Another man said that since Redstone had paid his utility bill, he would donate the money he would have spent on utilities to the Houston victims of Hurricane Harvey.

Redstone will perform ‘acts of brightness’ for the rest of 2017. It’s their way of giving back to the communities where they serve.

If you have had your day brightened by Redstone, tell us how.
