Season of Giving

Before December is just a memory, let's think back on all the wonderful things it brought. At Redstone Federal Credit Union, it brought more ways to give back to its communities by paying utility bills, making member wishes come true, and collecting letters for Santa.

December: the Month of Giving at Redstone

22 Dec 2017

Season of Giving

Before December speeds away and takes the Year 2017 with it. Let’s think back on some of the wonderful things this month has brought us.

Unfortunately, that list does not include snow. However, December has something no other month has - the arrival of Jolly Old St. Nick.

Here at Redstone Federal Credit Union, December should be dubbed, the ‘Month of Giving.’ That’s because during this month, Redstone has paid utility bills for residents throughout the Tennessee Valley and Middle Tennessee. We collected tens of thousands of cans for donation to area charities; played Secret Santa in our branches and surprised members with gifts and treats; and we have collected thousands of Letters to Santa that will generate a special donation to charities that support women and children. And that’s just in one month.

Branch Secret Santas

Each of our branches took on the challenge of secretly nominating a few of their members who employees thought could use a little more cheer this season. Some members visit the same branch year after year. Our staff take pride in knowing their regular members and finding ways to help meet their needs.

Our staff at the Highway 53 branch chose Jonathan Swaim, a volunteer firefighter in the community who is raising five children. “He serves our community in that role without compensation,’’ said branch manager Tim Quaife, and we appreciate that.

Season of Giving Sales Kids Hwy 53Jadius and Candez Sales were also surprised by the staff at Highway 53. The children, who live with their grandmother, wrote a sweet letter to Santa asking for a few toys. The staff was excited to help Santa fill their wishes.

Season of Giving - MeridianvilleAt the Meridianville branch, Charles Champion and his son were at a loss for words. Mr. Champion had been out of work and appreciated the staff’s thoughtfulness.

In Athens, Ashly Conley and her husband wanted to not only make Christmas special for their four children, but also for her sister’s children. The branch helped them do that by purchasing gifts for her children.

In Madison, Della Smith was thrilled when the branch helped her with her utility bill and bought headphones for her grandson.

Redstone Acts of Brightness

December 20 was the date of the final Acts of Brightness for 2017. Redstone Brightness Crews spread out around cities in the Tennessee Valley and Middle Tennessee to pay for utility bills. Doesn’t sound like your typical Christmas gift, does it? However, when that major expense is covered, you have more money and less stress to carry you through the holiday.

Elma Walker brought the Arab Branch a poinsettia to thank them for paying her utilities bill. Elma cares for her ill daughter. She said Redstone turned the ‘worst’ day into the ‘best’ day by paying her bill.

When Diana Newton, one of our employees, was paying utility bills at the Spragins Street office of Huntsville Utilities, one of the customers she helped became emotional. He said no one had ever gone out of their way to do something kind like this for him and he will never forget it.

“Moments like that is what makes Acts of Brightness worthwhile,’’ Diana said.

Letters to Santa

Season of Giving Letter to SantaRedstone kicked off its Letters to Santa initiative on November 29 at its Wynn Drive branch with a visit from Santa himself. Then, on December 4 in Murfreesboro, TN, we celebrated with our members and friends there. Since that time, thousands of letters have been mailed to Santa from our bright red mailboxes and have been emailed from our special link to the North Pole. For each letter we receive, Redstone will donate $1 to Christmas Charities Year Round and Special Kids Therapy and Nursing Center. The donations will be equally distributed between the two agencies that serve families and children.

We will collect letters through Christmas Eve! So hurry and get your letters in!

Watch for news on how many letters we received and our donation presentation over the next month.
